Paul Tillotson debuts in the Hammerstein Ballroom May 22, 2009 for Frankie Mannings 95th birthday party. Paul's trio played for the 2000 attending Lindy hop dancers... The entire dance floor was full of flipping flying swinging dancers! Everyone was in great spirits as we all paid tribute to the man who invented Lindy Hop dancing, Frankie Manning. It’s all that jazz in Sun Valley Live Music
Horns will blow this weekend as renowned trumpeter Lew Soloff joins the Paul Tillotson Trio from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, through Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Duchin Room in the Sun Valley Lodge. The trio includes James Wormworth on drums, Tillotson on keyboard and Jeff Rew on bass.

Soloff, a consummate fixture in the New York jazz scene, is one of the recognized trend-setting musicians who eased into New York’s lively music world in the mid-1960s.

A regular in Carla Bley’s 4X4 group and big band, Soloff was a founding member (along with leader David Matthews) of the Manhattan Jazz Quintet. He works with Bobby Previte alongside Charlie Hunter, DJ Logic and harpist Zena Parkins, records and tours with the Absolute Ensemble, the Bohusiän Big Band in Sweden and was a longtime collaborator with the late Gil Evans.

Soloff has released eight albums under his own name and appears on dozens more as a sideman, including albums by Charlie Musselwhite, Blood, Sweat and Tears, and Michael Franks, as well as on Frank Sinatra’s “L.A. is My Lady.”

A one-time protégé of jazz legend Gene Harris, Tillotson has played regularly in Sun Valley for over a decade. He performs with several incarnations of bands of which he is the leader, including the New York Connection and The Love Trio, which just released its latest CD, “Lindy Hop Blues.”

“We play a combination of swing, rock, pop, jazz and originals,” Tillotson says. “Whatever it takes to shake your booty.”

Jazz connoisseurs will appreciate Soloff’s guest appearance as it raises the considerable energy and talent on the Duchin Room stage.

“My mission is to play great improvised music, deeply touching the souls of audiences around the world, spreading the joy that is created while creating music that comes from love,” Tillotson said, humbly of course.

Paul Tillotson the Love Trio release their third CD together. Lindy Hop Blues is a 14 song CD featuring songs recorded live at the Jelly Roll Productions Lindy Hop Dance in New York City September 22, 2007. The dance was held at IL Campanello Restorante in mid town Manhattan. Dance royalty, Dawn Hampton and Frankie Manning, were present and dancing among the 150 people attending. The first song on the CD, "Satin Doll," was a dance feature for Dawn and Frankie. Dawn Hampton, famous trombonist Slide Hampton's sister, wrote the liner notes for Lindy Hop Blues. There she writes, "The Love Trio's music is so swingin' and so beautiful that I was compelled to dance all night." She also states, ". . . the Paul Tillotson Love Trio got everyone high. When Frankie and I danced to Satin Doll, we could feel the Love Trio's connection on every beat."
